Liverpool starlet Ryan Kent failed to impress at Bristol City and it was a costly mistake

sbo bz sbobet It didn't work out for the Anfield youngster at Ashton Gate
Ryan Kent, Bristol City’s on-loan winger, has had a frustrating time with the Robins this season after joining them in January. After failing to impress Lee Johnson, Kent was left out of the match day squad for the last six games in the Championship. The Liverpool winger was due to be on loan in the Bundesliga, Germany’s top division, with Freiburg but wasn’t getting enough game time so the German side and his parent club mutually decided to terminate the loan in January. Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, thought another loan deal would be best for the youngster’s development and the Reds received numerous offers from Championship sides. Offers came in from Barnsley, Derby, Leeds and Middlesborough but Klopp, who is reportedly a big fan of Kent, thought that a move to Bristol City would be best for the youngster.

So where did it go wrong for Kent at Bristol?
When he joined in January, it was thought that he’d fit in perfectly with Bristol City's style of play under Lee Johnson. The Robins manager even admitted it was a privilege to be trusted with a “top player”. Johnson explained: "He did very well at Barnsley last year and he'll bring genuine speed, athleticism and ball control to our squad. "We thank Liverpool for entrusting us with another top player's development and I'm looking forward to welcoming him in to the group." Since then however, the 21-year-old only appeared 11 times for City, ten times in the Championship and once in the Carabao cup in the second leg against Manchester City, finishing with 548 minutes of game time. sbo bz sbobet

However, he has failed to score all season but did register two assists during his time at Ashton Gate. WhoScored.com rated him at 6.50 for his performances. His best display coming in his early days at the club against Leeds with a 7.79 but his average was knocked down by a 5.75 display at Preston in the 2-1 defeat. Kent, who last featured for Bristol in their disappointing 1-0 loss at home to Brentford, was left out of the match day squad against Hull in April. In a press conference to the build-up to that match, Johnson spoke about his incredibly costly decision to leave Kent out, saying: "Ryan hasn’t done it to how we would have hoped in our team for whatever reason, "He came into a club with big expectations and for whatever reason it hasn’t quite worked as we would have all hoped. “The squad understands each other and has cohesion with each other, it’s not always easy to break into that scenario.” However, he did also praise the winger calling him a “great player” who could be worth £10m.

Johnson’s ‘costly mistake’
Previously, Johnson had admitted that he doesn’t like to have two wingers on the bench, often opting for Niclas Eliasson to occupy the spot among the subs. When the Robins agreed the deal with Liverpool for the winger, it's understood that financial clauses were added that would penalise the Robins if they decided they wouldn’t play Kent. The Sun reported that Johnson’s decision to leave Kent out of the last six games cost Bristol City £300,000. Kent is on a long-term contract at Anfield but it's been a disappointing season after such a promising pre-season with the Reds. It's now up to the youngster to prove his quality next term, either with the Reds or out on loan again. sbo bz sbobet
